Holmes Fire Company is one of six volunteer fire companies that serve Ridley Township. We are located about five miles south of Philadelphia. Our Company operates utilizing an engine, squrt, ladder, light rescue, and an ambulance. At Holmes Fire Company, we have about 35 active members who respond day and night in the event of emergencies.

BUSY SATURDAY

Saturday started off with an annual event for Holmes Fire Company. Every year it is our pleasure to lead the boys and girls of the Kedron Youth Association in their parade to kick off the new season. After leading the parade, the crew hung around for some of the opening day festivities. It was a special day as the Golden Ram Award was renamed the Michael D. Reagan Jr. Award and given to Michael's sisters Kristina, Marrisa, and Jessica. at 13:38 Co. 43 was dispatched to 943 South Ave at the Community Center for the fire alarm. upon arrival it was found that a 2 year old had pulled the alarm. Shortly after at 14:44 the RIT Assignment was dispatched to assist Co. 44 (Springfield) at the Chik-fil-a located at 805 Baltimore Pike. 44-9 arrived on location and had his crews investigating an odor of smoke in the building. A A/C unit on the roof was found to be the source. Around 16:00 some of the members gathered at the Chief's house to celebrate ambulance captain Debbie Garling's graduation from nursing school. Congrats Debbie. To end the day, the RIT assignment was dispatched to assist Co. 45 (Parkside) at 45 Park Vallei Rd. for the kitchen fire. As the rescue was going responding, 45-9 (Iacono) held the assignment to Co. 45.

 
 
BUILDING FIRE AND ENTRAPEMENT

Companies 18 (Folsom),43 (Holmes), 49 (Milmont), and 67 (Woodlyn) were dispatched at 08:25 to 327 Lincoln Street for the bedroom fire. Crews arrived on location to find a fire in the bedroom had been started by a candle and extinguished by the home owner but the was a moderate smoke condition in the building. Crews overhauled the bedroom and ventilated the building. Units were on scene for about 30 minutes. At 11:57 Rescue 43 was dispatched to assist Co. 70 (Leedom) and Co. 62 (Vauclain) on the accident with entrapment. Upon arrival the crew from the Rescue was given the order to work the passenger's side of the vehicle, while 62's crew worked the driver's side. The roof was removed from the Jeep and the dash was pushed to free the trapped driver. The crew was on scene for about 45 minutes.

 
   
   
 
ENTRAPMENT AND A RIT RUN

Rescue 43 was dipatched at 01:47 to assist Co. 05 (Glenolden) with the accident with entrapment at 105 S. MacDade Blvd. 05-9 (Locke) was on location with one car into a PECO pole. The crew from the Rescue was assisted by Co. 01 (Folcroft)and started to take the roof off the car, when the medics pronounced the driver and stopped the operation. The crews stood by for the arrival of the M.E. and after the investigation help with removal of the victim. The crew was on scene for approx 2 hours. At 13:09 Co. 43 was dispatched for the RIT team to assist Co 59 (Concordville) at 711 Concord Rd the Happy Lawn store for the building fire. The crew stood by as a RIT Team until the fire was placed under control, then helped with the companies roll and pack hose. Company was in service for about 4 1/2 hours.

 
   
   
 
FIVE CALLS FOR THE WEEKEND

The weekend had Company 43 handling five calls, starting Saturday morning at 08:09 with an assist to Co 02 (Norwood)for the automatic fire alarm at 60W. Winona Ave., the Holly Garden Apartments. Squrt 43 was recalled shortly after responding by 02-9, who had a tripped alarm. At 08:58 the Company was dispatched for the RIT Team to assist Company 03(Clifton Heights)on the building fire at 241 Cambridge Ave. The RIT Team was sent to the rear of the row homes to stand by while the companies were extinguishing a basement fire which had extended to the 1st floor. The company was in service for just over an hour. Sunday morning at 02:28 hours Rescue 43 was dispatched along with Rescue 67(Woodlyn) to assist Company 49(Milmont) with the accident with entrapment at MacDade Blvd and Milmont Ave. One patient was extricated from their vehicle, Crews assisted with the extrication and clean-up of the accident. The Rescue was on scene for about 45 minutes. At 05:31, the Company was dispatched to the Presidential Square Apts, 640 South Ave. for the trash fire. 43-9 (Hudyma Sr.) arrived on location and reported a dumpster fire with an exposure to a vehicle. The crew from Engine 43 put the trash line in service to extinguish the fire and was on location for 40 minutes. The last call for the weekend came in at 16:21 for an automatic fire alarm at Ridley YMCA, 900 South Ave. While en route Engine 43 received a report from the police that it was a tripped alarm and returned to the station.

 
 
ACCIDENT WITH ENTRAPMENT - 400 BLOCK EAST MACDADE

The company was dispatched at 16:18 hrs to assist Company 18(Folsom) with an accident with entrapment in the 400 block of E. MacDade Blvd. Upon arrival the medics asked for the driver's door to be popped. Crews stabilized the vehicle then used a halligan bar to open the door. The company was in service for approx 30 minutes.

 
   
   
 
BUILDING FIRE IN FOLSOM

At 21:30 hrs, Company 43 was dispatched to assist Company 18(Folsom) on the building fire at the CVS store located at 1937 E. MacDade Blvd. Upon arrival, Squrt 43 was callled to the back of the building by 18-9 where he was reporting smoke in the rear store room. The crew from the Squrt went in to locate the origin of the fire and found a pallet of paper products on fire with two sprinkler heads activated holding the fire in check. An 1 3/4" was put in service to extinguish any remaining fire. Crews started ventilation of the building. Additional Companies dispatched on the initial assignment were, Company 49(Milmont), 67(Woodlyn), RIT 14(Swarthmore) and Ridley 7. Company 70(Leedom) and Company 12(Eddystone) was special called to the scene. The Company was under the command of 43-9a (Bennan), and was in service for about 1 1/2 hours.

 
 
RIT ASSIST TO DARBY BOROUGH

The RIT assignment was dispatched at 08:30 hours to 901 Summit Rd to assist Darby Borough as the second alarm RIT. The company was in service for 3 1/2 hours.

 
   
   
 
RESCUE ASSIST TO THE TRI-BORO FIRE COMPANY'S SEPTA DRILL

The company was dispatched to assist the Tri-Boro Fire Company with their SEPTA Drill on Sunday 11-18-07. Both Rescues and the Ambulance responded and assisted with patient packaging and removal. A critique was held after the drill and the company returned to service at 11:30 hurs.

 
   
   
 
CHRISTMAS TREE SALES TO START

The Holmes Fire Company will again be selling Christmas Trees. The tree sale will be held at the station starting on 12-1-07. It will continue until 12-23-07. Week day hours of operations will be from 4:00 pm until 9:00 pm and weekend hours of operations will be from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm.

 
 
STABILIZATION AND AIRBAG DRILL

The company had a stabilization and airbag drill on 11-6-07. A "victim" was staged and we used various stabilization and extrication techniques to free the "victim".

FIRE PREVENTION VISITS COMPLETE

The members completed the fire prevention visits over the last two weeks. Visits were made to Fatima School, the YMCA, Holy Spirit Church, DELCO Day Care, and Holmes Presbyterian Day Care. Special thanks to the Ridley 7 crew for their assistance at the YMCA.

LINE OF DUTY DEATH

The officers and members of the Sharon Hill and Holmes Fire Companies regret to announce the death of Michael Reagan, due to injuries sustained from a building collapse at a fire on Wednesday Night September 26, 2007 at 919 Coates Street in Sharon Hill Boro. Visitation hours will be 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday October 4, 2007 at the Aldan Union Church located at 7 Providence Road, Aldan PA 19018. Funeral services will be held on Friday October 5, 2007. Please call Sharon Hill Fire Company at 610-583-7302 to receive staging information for the funeral.
